Aberdeen Harbour Improvements

Due to an increase in the size of vessels, particularly due to the development of the offshore wind farm industry, the Harbour Board required the widening and deepening of Aberdeen Port.

Using the Nordic Giant backhoe dredger and the trailing suction hopper dredger Crestway, Boskalis Westminster removed approximately 386,000 cubic metres of material, deepening part of the main channel to 8 metres. In order to increase the efficiency of the dredging, areas of rock were pre-treated by drilling and blasting.
